Description
The flagship piece — the classic American pickling crock, hand-thrown in Ohio. Heavy, salt-glazed, cobalt-banded at the rim, with a presence that makes whatever you put in it feel like it belongs.
We carry the full size range, from a one-quart for the counter to a ten-gallon that lives on the floor. Small sizes hold spoons, utensils, dry goods, or a small bouquet of branches. Larger sizes hold flour bags, kindling, a coat tree's worth of umbrellas, or — every December — a freshly cut Christmas tree.
Dimensions: Available in 1qt, 2qt, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 gallon
Why it's here: Few things speak to the intersection of rural design, utility, and self-reliance like the classic pickling crock. And within that world, one name stands head and shoulders above the rest — Ohio Stoneware. They're one of America's last remaining commercial pottery manufacturers, still operating in what used to be known as the Pottery Capital of the World. Each piece is made by hand and designed to last more than a lifetime — as evidenced by the countless old Ohio Stoneware crocks you'll find in antique stores across the country.
To be honest, we use ours for everything but pickling. Our Christmas tree sits in one in December, we keep flour and dry goods in them on the counter, one serves as a utensil pot, many live as plant pots, and we have one by the door as an umbrella stand.
What you're getting: One hand-thrown Ohio Stoneware crock in the size of your choice. Cobalt-banded rim, salt-glazed interior. Available in 1qt high, 2qt high, 1 gallon, 2 gallon, 3 gallon, 4 gallon, 5 gallon, and 10 gallon sizes.
Care: Dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. Stoneware will develop a natural patina and small use marks over time — a feature, not a flaw, and the reason these pieces look so beautiful in antique stores decades from now.
