About this piece

The chamberstick, a low candle holder with a wide drip-catching base and a handle for carrying, was the standard bedside and corridor candle holder before electric light. This simple example has the understated elegance of a form refined over centuries of daily use. Nothing unnecessary, nothing missing.

Condition

Good antique condition. Natural brass patina consistent with age. Structurally sound.

Care & display

Wipe clean with a soft dry cloth. Polish occasionally with a brass cleaner if desired, though the natural patina that develops with age is part of the piece’s character and many prefer to leave it. Keep dry between uses.
