A classic sweater in a chunky green cable knit inspired by classic Scottish and Irish sweaters.

These sweaters are built to deliver exceptional warmth for a lifetime. Made from almost 1.2 and 2lb of natural, minimally processed long fibre wool you can expect these sweaters to be soft, but not exceptionally soft like cashmere or merino, so we advise caution if you have a high sensitivity to natural wool. Additionally, as these are made the traditional way you can expect a faint ‘sheepy’ fragrance on the sweaters. This is due to the wool being minimally processed leaving traces of lanolin, the natural oils found in sheep’s wool which improve water resistance and longevity. We find this to be quite pleasant, and many of our customers agree and find it to be reassuring to know their clothing has been minimally processed, but it’s worth noting here.

WHY WE LOVE IT

We discovered these sweaters in a small shop in England over ten years ago, and still have that same sweater today, surviving a decade of heavy use. There was no other sweater we wanted to carry in our shop, so we tracked down the mill in England, drove there in person and persuaded them to start making them for us.

They are the opposite of fast fashion – classically styled and made in a small family run mill using 100% natural long fibre sheep’s wool, and a lot of it. Designed not to be used for a season, but for a lifetime.

Few materials are warmer than natural wool, hence why it’s been a favourite for fisherman, farmers, and explorers for centuries. In fact, we spotted a sweater from this same mill in the Gothenburg Maritime museum as an example of one of the most authentic fisherman style sweaters.

ABOUT THE MAKER
Made by a small father and son run wool mill in the Midlands of the UK. They have origins dating back to World War Two and have a long relationship with a British yarn spinner in the Pennine mountains who source all their wool from independent British farmers. The wool is then knitted, steam pressed, overlocked and linked using a combination of machines and hand finishes.

MATERIALS, SPECIFICATIONS AND SIZES

Materials: 100% Lancashire wool

Sizing: Unisex. Fit true to size for men(but size up for a looser fit), and recommend sizing down for women. Male model in our sweater imagery is wearing a medium and is 5ft 10” and 163lb. Female model in our imagery is wearing an extra small and is 5ft 7” and 125lb.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

We've had ours for 10 years, and this is how we did it:

1.      They can be machine washed, just use a setting for wool wash, delicates or hand wash and do not exceed 30 degrees. Use a mild or wool specific detergent.

2.      Hand washing is preferred, just use warm water and a mild or wool specific detergent.

3.      To keep the wool at its best mix a few drops of baby oil in with the water.

4.      Rinse thoroughly and lay out flat for drying on a towel. Do not hang to dry as this will likely case stretching.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Made from minimally processed and 100% natural sheeps wool sourced from independent British farmers. The sheep are free to roam the hills of Lancashire and are generally sheared once a year between May and July which not only produces wonderful wool, but also prevents the sheep from over heating and suffering flystrike.
